where music becomes community

DESCRIPTION
As part of my consistent practicing of UIUX, I created this personal project, creating a new design feature for the Spotify app.
Introducing the Music Sharing Hub, fusing music and social interaction. This hub is your gateway to a vibrant music community with real-time notifications, comment tagging, and a built-in chat feature.
CHALLENGE
To enhance user engagement and foster a sense of community within the Spotify desktop app, can the implementation of the Music Sharing Hub feature effectively facilitate seamless music-related interactions among users while maintaining a consistent and intuitive user experience?
My first step in tackling this project was conducting user research for Spotify, enabling a better understanding on users’ needs and problems with the current model.
NOTABLE PAIN POINTS
1. Social music discovery
Spotify, as it stands, primarily focuses on personalized music recommendations. The Music Sharing Hub will enable users to discover music through their friends and followers, introducing a social dimension to music discovery.
2. Real-time engagement
Spotify lacks real-time interactions among users. The Music Sharing Hub will provide features like real-time notifications for likes and comments, fostering instant engagement around shared music.
3. Integrated messaging & communication
While users can share songs on Spotify, it doesn't offer integrated messaging features. The Music Sharing Hub will seamlessly integrate music sharing and conversations, allowing users to discuss and share music within the platform.

Users can effortlessly share their favorite songs, albums, and playlists
Either by sharing to their feed or directly messaging
It's simple to express musical tastes with friends and followers
2. Real-time social interaction
Engage in real-time interactions with friends and followers through likes, comments, and shares.
Stay connected and have meaningful conversations centered around music.
3. Social music discovery
Discover new music and artists based on shared preferences of friends and followers, as well as mood.
Users can expand musical horizons by connecting them with like-minded music enthusiasts.
4. Personalized music feed
Users are updated with the latest musical journeys and discoveries within their network through the Activity Feed. Users can access personalized curations of recommended playlists and songs.

The Music Sharing Hub
This new design feature, inspired by the infinitely growing usage of social media, encourages active engagement with Spotify’s interfaces.
Within the feature, users can more conveniently share music, whether it be through directly messaging, or through posting and sharing on their feeds, all of which can now occur within Spotify’s interface.
